Two Ball Dribbling

Handling the basketball is imperative for all positions, not just point guards. If a centre spends some workout time on dribbling, he can become a greater threat. Guards and forwards obviously need to be able to attack off the dribble to score and force defenders to sag off.

My favourite ball handling basketball workouts involve two balls. This helps develop both hands and ensures the dominant hands does not take over.

1. Start by dribbling a basketball in each hand in an alternating pattern. The basketball in the left hand should hit the ground at the time that the basketball in the right is touching the hand.

2. Move on to simultaneous bouncing. Both hitting the floor/hand at the same time.

3. Do the above while moving forwards. Start at a walk if required and gradually get faster.

4. Stand with wide feet and turn your upper body to face sideways. Dribble one basketball through your leg, and the other over the top of your leg. Repeat in the other direction.

5. Stand with wide feet and dribble both balls through your legs at the same time.  Advanced ball handlers should be able to do this without a dribble in between.

Remember that mistakes are good. If you’re not making mistakes you’re probably not challenging yourself enough.
