Developing Ball Handling Through Square Dribbling

Square dribbling is taking basketball handling right back to basics, and is an effective warm-up workout to get the hands warm and the basketball feeling good in the hands.

The ‘square’ refers to an imaginary square around the body. The basketball is dribbled back and forth along one of the lines of the square.

1. Crossover between left and right hand in front of the body.

2. Bounce ball side to side using right hand only in front of the body.

3. Bounce ball side to side using left hand only in front of the body.

4. Bounce ball front to back on right side of the body using right hand only.

5. Bounce ball front to back on left side of the body using left hand only.

6. Bounce ball behind back between left and right hands.

7. Bounce ball between legs between left and right hands.

The basketball should be pushed in to the floor such that a full team of players makes a deafening noise when doing this workout. Emphasising pushing the ball down will create speed.
