Push Passing To Avoid Turnovers

The chest pass is the technique most used in basketball drills for kids as it is the most used pass in basketball. However, alternative basketball workouts must be used for youth and higher, as the defence gets tighter and you need more angle on your pass to avoid aggressive hands in the passing lane.

A push pass uses one hand, as opposed to two in the chest pass. The pass should start from the side of the hip so that the pass “curls” to the receiver, creating a much better angle on the pass.

The hardest part of this workout is using both hands to pass the basketball. However, this movement is easier than others (such as shooting with your off hand) and should be easy for a youth to master after a month of having introduced the technique. The push pass should be emphasised in all half-court offence drills.
