Basketball Workouts

Improve Your Game

Strong Leading

Getting open is a vitally important part of an offence. It is up to each individual player to work hard to get themselves open. Good defenders constantly harass and deny passes to make offensive players sweat. This basketball workout is good for developing leading in players of all ages, from kids to elite athletes.

This is also a great aerobic/endurance workout.

Players start in a pair, or with a coach if this is an individual basketball workout. Each player makes a v-cut, where they move in one direction, then quickly burst in another direction. This makes a “v” shape on the court. Many players make the mistake of cutting at the same pace all the time. The first part of the V should be slow (even sometimes a walk), and the second part should be a full blown sprint.

Players constantly perform the v-cut, then catch the basketball that is thrown to them by the other person. The other person then performs the cut and the basketball is passed to them.

This is yet another great warm-up workout, but is effective in getting stationary players moving without the ball. Teams that tend to stand around waiting for offence to happen should be doing this workout to encourage a smooth, flowing offence.
